Stephen is married with three grown up children and underwent a lifesaving heart transplant at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow in 2015, having been diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Oxfordshire ten years earlier. He is heavily involved in the Scottish Heart Failure Hub, and spent 3 years on the Scottish Organ Donation and Transplant Group. He is currently Vice-Chair of Trustees for CM UK.
At the time of his diagnosis he was working as Vicar, but due to his illness, he needed to take early retirement in 2007; he then worked part-time as a consultant in conflict resolution, leadership training and team building. Before being ordained into the Church of England in 1998, Stephen had a 26 year career as an infantry officer in the British Army, commanding an Infantry Battalion and his final post was as Commander of Old College at Sandhurst.
Stephen is passionate about securing timely and accurate diagnosis for cardiomyopathy patients and is keen that national protocols be carried into local care plans. He has particular interest in Palliative Care for AHF patients and in building on CM UK’s work in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
