Cardiomyopathy and the COVID-19 Vaccination

COVID-19 10 June 2021

Cardiomyopathy UK strongly encourages people with cardiomyopathy to accept the COVID-19 vaccination if offered. The charity fully supports the British Society for Heart Failure's (BSH) position on the COVID-19 vaccine and why it is important for people with cardiomyopathy to accept a vaccination.

The BSH states that;

"Vaccines allow an individual to develop immunity to a virus or bacteria and they reduce the risk of infection. If you are unfortunate enough to catch the infection despite vaccination, then vaccines may reduce the severity of the illness.

At a population level, vaccines also make it difficult for infection to spread from person to person, because they reduce the number of vulnerable individuals in the population. Unlike most medicines, which treat or cure diseases, vaccines prevent and may eradicate infectious diseases.
